Crust
The "Crust" series is a sculptural practice that redefines the boundary between physical and virtual spaces by colliding "clay"—humanity's most primal modeling material—with "digital technology," the symbol of the contemporary era.
The vessel, constructed by tearing and hand-pinching clay, presents geological time and unpredictable physicality through its intentionally retained cracks and seams. By physically intervening with highly calculated 3D-printed PLA resin joints, this series embodies the complete fusion of classical and cutting-edge technologies. This structural approach of applying an "artificial patch" (3D printing) to a "natural bug" (the shrinkage and distortion of clay in the kiln) functions as a metaphor for the complex hybrid environment of the modern society we live in.
Furthermore, the vivid and diverse colorings developed in this series, along with the variations in carved wood, minerals, and connecting parts, are reminiscent of "changing an avatar's skin" in the digital realm.
"Crust" is not merely a functional vessel. It is the presentation of a new dimension of three-dimensional expression, born from the overlapping of primitive traces of handwork and modern simulation technology within the same geological stratum.
