DIS × TOSHIKI (2019)

TOSHIKI presented photographic works and bags created in collaboration with the New York–based art collective DIS.

DIS was founded in 2010 by Lauren Boyle, Solomon Chase, Marco Roso, and David Toro. Until 2018, through their online media platform DIS Magazine, which focused on various phenomena and cultures surrounding the internet, mass consumption, commercialism, and the behind-the-scenes of fashion, they developed numerous projects aimed at addressing social issues. In addition to producing artworks and criticism, they curated the “Present in Drag” exhibition at the 9th Berlin Biennale in 2016, demonstrating a wide range of activities.

Currently, their main focus has shifted to dis.art, a video streaming platform centered around the theme of “edutainment.” Inviting renowned artists and critics, they focus on redefining entertainment and education through philosophy, technology, contemporary art, activism, and culture.

TOSHIKI’s exhibited works originated from the video series XOXO, SAFETY NET, which depicts the economic crisis that the millennial generation faced following the 2008 financial collapse.

ニューヨークを拠点とするアート集団DISと協働した写真作品やバッグを発表しました。

DISは、ローレン・ボイル、ソロモン・チェーズ、マルコ・ロッソ、デイヴィッド・トーロの4名により2010年に結成。18年まで、オンラインをとりまく様々な現象や文化、大量消費、コマーシャリズムやファッションの裏側に焦点を当てたオンラインメディア「DIS Magazine」にて、社会課題の解決に向けたプロジェクトを多数展開。また作品発表や評論、16年の第9回ベルリン・ビエンナーレ「プレゼント・イン・ドラッグ」をキュレーションするなど、幅広く活動している。

現在は「エデュテイメント」をテーマとしたビデオストリーミング「dis.art」へ活動の主軸を移行。著名アーティストや批評家を招き、哲学、テクノロジー、現代美術、アクティビズム、文化などを通して、エンターテインメントと教育を再定義することに注力している。

2008年の金融危機がミレニアル世代にもたらした経済的危機を描いた映像作品「XOXO,SAFETY NET」シリーズから生まれた作品を発表した。
